Carib Wrapup

The Caribbean 1500 is over. Yacht “NYANZA” crossed the finishline off of Beef Island and Virgin Gorga at 1100 hours on Sunday Night Nov 16^th. Thye crew was quick to cheer and then realized that we were 15 miles to go to get to Roadtown. With all of Gigs experience we arrived safely to tie up at the Moorings Docks

Since no one was up at 3AM at Village Cay.

 

Monday came early as we had breakfast at the Moorings, moved the boat and Cap Jim raced off to get customs and immigration done so Jamie and Gib could leave later in the day. Two hours later I returned with the deed done and they both very tired left for the states. Too bad they did not have time to stay a few days.

 

Monday night saw the trophy presentation and Mont Gay Party. As you might suspect with crew of four and one injured, Nyanza finished 6 out of 8 in our fleet. 20 hours behind the winner. Think I know where some of that time was.

 

Tuesday night saw the final dinner party as I countinue to get salt and items repaired from the Rally.

 

Here is a list of most of the items that broke on the trip...many I had not upgraded before leaving:

• Hydraulic Autopilot stopped working Day 3
• Hydraulic Backstay Seal let go Day 4
• Main Sheet Broke at sheave on Day 4
• Upper 2^nd Batten came out and was lost day 5
• Roller Furler line snapped day 7
• Dodger Port hold down tore out day 3, repaired and tore out Day 8
• Drink Holder Broke
• Dodger had tears in it
• US Flag Lost/ Pennant saved
• Table below tore out one side of bracket on bulkhead wall
• Taylors inflatable West Jacket blewup and then new cylinder fell out
• Outside VHF Radio connection broke.
• Misc things........

 

So much for heavy air wet sailing......8 dsays of heavy loading and boat banging take there toal.
