Day 6 Wednesday night found us at 2546w/6547N with East winds at 20-30K. Getting ready after a spinnaker ride to get ugly. At About 1900 hrs Sherry got thrown our of the galley area across landing on the ladder first and then hitting the corner of the chart table. This is all we need down one crew member. Dr Gilbert jumped into action and started tapeing ribs and apply butterfly to head. Made contact with miles, Dr on Carib ad advised as we went with medical applications. Gib did a great job.
Meanwhile as the waves build here is the condition of Yacht Nyanza. Earlier in the day the seal on the hydraulic backstay let go on Wed leaving the headstay 6” limp. I managed to take up three inches in backstay turnbuckles and think it will work when if every we put the jib back up that is strapped to the deck. Meanwhile being safe we put stb halyard forward only to have it get wrapped when we rolled in jib. Think we got vthat fixed should we need to put it back up. Second batten came out of main...Bierig said it ewould never happen again..well David..throw this dawn method away.
This is Friday morning, Day 8 2434w/6524n wind 100 degrees.We are still in 20’seas..winds to 28knots... tomorrow supposed to go to north...estimated toime in tortola Sunday pm.....Gibs comment....survivors show...sometimes I wonder.....Nyanza continues to hold up fine and engine runs well......the sea is taking it’s toll on the crew
