Countdown begins

11-14-11 Countdown begins- Nyanza makes it to Columbia Yacht Club in downtown Chicago.
Well, at 8AM yesterday morning I get a call from the transport captain Dave Block…bad news..20 miles offshore and the shaft is not turning…it is no longer connected to the transmission….calling Boat US for tow and going into Crowleys yard about 10 miles south of main harbor up the 96 street river where the Blues Brothers launched their car.
Very worried Nyanza will not race…called Crowleys to warn we were coming in. Dave got the boat in safely….mechanic checking it out….do we have to pull the boat?
12:30 Call back…it’s all fixed….motor mount had loosened up and it sheered off the bolts on the coupling and it came undone. All fixed two hours later.
2:00 arrive at Crowleys , Dave heads for Erie and we load up Nyanza with all the provisions for the race and motor into 5 foot seas for two hours to the Columbia Yacht Club testing out the engine fix.. All is well.
Today, David and I are going over to Gensler, world class architect to meet the woman who is the lead Architect for the PNC Building in Pittsburgh. We are trying to write the spec.
Boat is ready to go…weather reports all talk about wind out of the South and Southwest…Hinckley spinnaker weather….bring it on….the wind gods are starting to speak for NYANZA. Enjoy a few pictures.
