CHICAGO-MAC Here we come!

07/05/11 Well the planning is all done and Nyanza left today with Captain Dave Block for a 720 mile journey over to the detroit river..up the river thru lake st clair and the saint clair river to Port Huron where they will arrive in two days. From there up lake Huron and Down lake Michigan. Crew of 4, one being Davids young son.

I will hope to keep you informed as to all the prep for this race....it's big.
Crew of 8....safety requirements....planning etc.
Here is an email I just sent out to the crew to get them thinking....we are 9 days away...Saturday afternoon...Chicago-Mackinaw 288 Nautical Miles.

Food for thought to the Nyanza Crew

Time to start thinking about the race!

Nyanza is moving toward Chicago tonight so you can go racing….she is in the Detroit River…Arriving Port Huron in the morning.

Location is still undecided in Chicago…either Columbia YC or Chicago YC Monroe. Will advise.. rooms Thur and Fri are on Clark Street.

Go out to the web site and start checking it out. www.cycracetomackinac.com/ We are in Division 8…can anyone figure out what time we start on Saturday?

Thinking about what to take and not take……Pack light but to stay warm. Water temp in Chicago is 63…Straits of mac probably 50 at night.

Here is what you do not need to bring:
No bedding…nyanza has bedrolls and pillows
No PFD’s …Nyanza carries 8 with lights and whistles that must be worn after sunset.

You must bring a sharp sailing knife and carry at all times.
Bring One personal Towel
Bring Foul Weather gear
Bring all drugs you may need in your hygiene kit in appropriate bag…room in head to store 8 kits.

Bring long pants/Shorts/ layers to put on or take off..at least three sets of clothes in case it is wet.
Winter Ski Cap, Suntan lotion, Gloves if required, hat, two pairs of shoes for boats ( Could be one dry-1 wet)
One pair of shorts(shirts to be supplied) for Trophy Party after we win.
Remember 8 people must coexist for 2+ days. Have a bag that keeps you organized….No Wheels on bags….everything stays in your bag.
