Time Log of the Trip to Annapolis

So here is the time log of our portion of the voyage that will give you some distances you can travel in one day.

8/24/08 we departed Lock 11 in Amsterdam at 2:15 Those early locks dropped us 12-15 feet each. Once in the "Steps" we dropped 33 feet each until arriving in Waterford at 9:30 that night.

8/25/08 After breakfast at that restaurant, we left Waterford at 9:15 AM. The overcast and rain had cleared out. At 9:45 we had cleared Lock #1 and soon entered the Hudson. We were aground off Catskill at 2:30 and finally into the harbor at 5:50. Saw lots of Bald Eagles. We were invited to join Paul and Nancy on their boat Encore. As access to the heat source for our stove was still unavailable, they welcomed the opportunity to cook our hot dogs on theirs. Even threw in some ears of corn.

8/26/08 Morning was spent watching the mast come down on Encore as she was headed up the Erie Canal for Michigan. Finally around 2:00 the mast of NYANZA again stood proudly over the deck. Then came the re-rigging. This kept us here for the balance of the day.

8/27/08 After fuel and water we departed 9:55 AM. We were off Poughkeepsie at 2:35 and Newburg at 4:25. But we thought we good go further so on down the Hudson we went. Just past that early 1800's arsenal, we turned back up river and entered Newburg at 5:25. Another beautiful day...light air.

8/28/08 Departed at 8:40 AM. Were off West Point by 10:15 AM and under the Tappan Zee Bridge at 1:15 PM. A beautiful day, we were at Liberty Landing Marina in NJ by 4:15...right by the Statue of Liberty.

8/29/08 After provisioning, we left the Marina at 12:40 and set off for the long trip down the NJ coast to Cape May. The trip did not finish until the next afternoon.

8/30/08 We ran various watches under a beautiful star lit sky. At 5:15 AM we were off Atlantic City. Wind on the nose for most of the trip though we managed to raise sail a few times and turn off the "iron wind." Finally at 1:15 PM we pulled into Two Mile Marina.

8/31/08 Departed Marina at 8:30 AM and arrived at the the Summit North Yacht Club, St. George, MD at 9:30 that evening

9/1/08 Departed the Club (after taking on fuel) at 2:15 PM. We were in the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. We ventured up the Sassafras River and at 7:10 PM anchored off Little Marsh Point.

9/2/08 Departed at 10:23 AM. Another gorgeous day. We went aground at 4:15 PM while trying to enter Rock Hall Harbor. Gave that up and finally dropped anchor at 7:10 PM in the Chester River behind a point off the National Wildlife Refuge.

9/3/08 Off at 9:30 AM we headed for the Magothy River to pick up Roger. This was done at 1:30 PM and we headed off to look for a safe place to shelter NYANZA from the hurricane's. Settled in off a dock at Roger's mother's house. Later jumped ship and joined a 6:00 PM race.

9/4/08 Left at 10:30 and arrived at Sarles Repair, Annapolis at 3:00 PM. Tied up on a wall.

9/5/08 Moved off the wall to a slip, again at Sarles. Here is where NYANZA is slotted to spend five weeks until her departure for Norfolk.

9/6/08 At 9:15 we departed, via land yacht, for Erie. Think we arrived around 4:00
