A Journey into the Wye River

Once again, the captain was gracious enough to allow the crew a little extra time to sleep. We then enjoyed breakfast aboard Yacht Nyanza, consisting of coffee, granola, yogurt, fresh strawberries and bananas. We then spent a few hours learning about crabbing, oystering, duck blinds and boat building at the Chesapeake Maritime Museum. Tom Seip, a friend from Erie and board member of the museum, joined us for a while at the museum. We then headed the boat north for the wonderful Wye River. After reading about the numerous places to anchor, we decided on Pickering Cove several miles up the east side of the river. Along the cruise up the river, we saw beautiful homes with manicured lawns, horse stables, boat houses and duck blinds. The further up the river we travelled, the less boats and homes we encountered. We finally reached Pickering and dropped anchor in 10 feet of water to ensure enough depth when the water receded to low tide. Calm water, clear skies and fresh air, although not quite as fragrant as the air in Maine. At exactly 6:30pm, Chef Tim promptly began the preparations for a wonderful steak dinner in the Wye River. The meal included fine cuts of steak grilled to perfection, sautéed vegetables, potatoes and a bottle of wine. As everyone enjoyed dinner, the last drops of sunshine disappeared leaving a breathtaking display of stars for all to enjoy. To conclude the evening, we gathered in the main salon to watch the great movie "Spy Game" with Robert Redford. Soon thereafter, the hull reverberated to the snoring of all aboard.
