07-28-12 Pushed off the dock at 1100 hours for our run into the Bay of Quinte. Having been told there were losts of weeds and shallow spots I was somewhat apprehensve. We were going to go 60 miles and I did not want to back out if it got to shallow at the end. As luck would have it...shallow but no problems. We had a great sail west in what is called the North Channel above Amherst Island on a close reach and proceeded towar the Adolphus Reach which would take us into the Bay of Qunite. Unfortunately we has to motor thru the reach since we ran out of wind and proceeded on toward Picton. Instead of stopping in Picton we decided to sail north as some wind filled in and spent the night on a hook at the turn in Deseronto. A beautiful night where I cooked a great meal for Doug and Sara. We had chicken cutlets and pasta with fresh salad and some good vino. Lots of fun and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. Most of the time we were running in 15 to 20 feet of water occassionally finding a few weed patches. 07-29-12 Morning comes and after some coffee, yogurt and blueberries (the captains Favorite) we started toward Belleville and another high bridge under motor, continuing on we passed Trenton thru some very shallow areas but well marked and proceeded toward the Murray Canal. A five mile Canal that had been dug to open up the Bay of Quinte from Presque Isle on the west. We found two swivel bridges that we waited to pass by with other sailboats and powerboats in the canal. I have only seen one other swivel bridge which is in Little Current in the North Channel, Ontario. Procedeing on we hit the shallow part of Presque Isle bay trying to get out into lake Ontario. Following a set of good markers we made it having seen 1' under our keel a number of times. Doug Sara and I were estatic that we had made it thru the Bay of Qunite with a 7' darft with no groundings. All of this with the water down 1.5 feet. Proceeding on we headed for Colbourg about 20 miles away where we would stay for the night. Check out the pictures . Cap Jim
