07-29-12 Calling into the Cobourg Marina of 500 slips we barely got in. Marina was full but Nyanza found a slip. Town has a population of 18,000 and is delightful.
We headed into town and found a delightful restaurant with a band going in the courtyard. Had a great meal. It was called the Oasis Bar and Grill. It's been there for 20 years. For a Sunday night it was packed and a lot of fun.
07-30-12 We pushed off for Toronto on a beautiful sail for a good part of the day. Called into RCYC to confirm we had a dock. We arrived in the Toronto harbor under motor after traveling about 50 miles to a nice dock at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club....the oldest YC on the Great lakes and only caters to sailboats...they have 550 slip and many many classes of small boats and sailing classes for all ages.
Dockmasters name was Cooper...nice young boy. They have very few docks available for guest. We slid into one for someone out cruising for two weeks. We had drinks and dinner in their snackbar and watched the Olympics.
07-31-12 Doug and Sara headed over to Toronto where we were booked into the Harborfront Westin for the night. I spent the day cleaning the boat and getting it ready for Rich merwin and Helina, richards guest from Fort Lauderdale. Headed into town about 3PM. Doug and Sara had taken the bus tour around the city, been up the tower, seen the Art Museum etc. We went to dinner at a great restaurant about six blocks from the hotel called JUMP....got to know the manager and after dinner he took uu up to the owners other restaurant on the 46 floor of an adjacent building called Canoe...thought I might take richard their the next night. Nice view and full...did not like the entries prices at $80 all-a-carte...for four people could probably get out for $800.00 TALL COTTON.
Did you know that Toronto right now has more construction than any other city in the world...140 boom cranes working building Condos, Apartments and office buildings....
Country has no debt , nat resources and foreigners are investing as a safe haven.
Why am I not in the door business there?
08-01-12 Morning comes and Richard has arrived and we get into the new Audi convertable to the airport to meet Helina.....she arrives and we send Doug and Sara home after a great week in Rich's car and we take a towncar back to our hotel.
Lunch in Yorktown and then Rich and Helina went site seeing. We went to Rich's favorite steak house called Hys...been their a long time...great steaks.
08-02-12 Stopped at the market at 8am, provisioned and then took the ferry back to RCYC where we boarded Nyanza and motored out of Toronto. It's fabulous to see this cosmopolitan city from the water. Check out the pictures.
We ended up sailing half way, helina fit right in and we had a good time finishing up at the Niagara on the Lake Sailing Club about 1600 hrs. Rich and Helina went into town and I did some chores to get ready for a great evening at the Shaw Festival Theater seeing "RAGTIME". It was excellent and then dinner at a pub wher the cast all came in and we had fun talking to them. Oh I forgot to mention Jim Whistler came down to see the show. He is going to help us with some friends in the morning take the boat thru the Welland Canal.
