08-03-12 0830 Peter and Cherie Logan, a delightful couple from San Franscisco showed up to go thru the Welland. He is from Buffalo and has just bought a boat and lives near Crystal beach in the summer. They wanted to experience the trip. We arrived at the lock at 0930 and called into Welland Control to hear that we would go thru with 4 other power boat at about 11:30. A few customs boys came by checking for our entry numbers....did we have one? yes Then we heard a Canadian Coat Guard Boat would go thru first...think we got moving around 1215 hrs......waited in a few lock....showed we had paid online when we got to dock 3. It currently costs $25.00 a lock or $200.00 one way....I remember when it was $50.00....oh well ..it's a spectacular ride...it was dark when we came into port Colbourne and motored right into Canal days weekend and we were there on Friday night. I had called into the Manager at Sugarloaf who I know from the Interclub and she did me a big favor and found us a spot for the nigh. We ate upstairs at the marina....soso. 08-04-12 Talking to Rich and Helena it was decided that we would leave for Erie instead of going up to Dunnville and spending the night. They were calling for 25 knot winds on Sunday out of the South West. Not a good idea for my guest or me or NYANZA... We set sail at 0830 and had a lovely motor sail going 7 back to Erie on a NW wind and arrived back in Homeport Erie at 0630 and checked into customs at Perrys Landing and motored home to go old EYC It was a wonderful trip, good sailing friends and interesting ports.....not a lot of sailing, but then quite often that is the case. As we say sometimes "Been there, done that". take me back to upper Michigan and the North Channel.......Hope you enjoyed reading about this two week...550 nautical mile trip of the good ship NYANZA and Captain Jim
