07/13/12 Having arrived in Port Colborne after motoring for 10 hours at Sugarloaf Marina…Roger Zurn, Greg Eddins and his friend Christian Feralli we had a good dinner and retired for the night after having waited for an hour and a half for Canadian Customs to show up and bless the arrival of such a distinguished group of US citizens. Morning came early and we headed above lock #8 to check in by the land phone at 0745 only only to hear that we would lock down at 1100 with two other pleasure craft. ..so we had breakfast in Port Colborne at a cute little restaurant on the canal. 1100 hours came and we started our 8 hour passage…quick trip…we only saw one boat coming up. It was very windy and when we got down to lock 3 we had a lot of trouble getting to the wall to lock down due to all the windage. Finally got it. Coming out of the locks we arrived in Youngstown, checked in on the vodaphone to US Customs and were met by Jim Whistler and Alice who would be taking the boat in the morning for the next week before I meet it. Dinner with Jim and Alice and into bed. Drove Jims car back to Erie after wishing Jim, Alice, Susie Robbins (Jim’s Sister) and Alices Sister off toward Rochester, Little Sodus Bay etc to be met in Clayton, NY. Cap Jim
