07/22/12- 07/23/12 Leaving Erie at 8:30 Doug Beers, Sara mead and the Captain drove 5 hours up to Clinton NY where we met the beautiful yacht “NYANZA” which as usual was all polished up aby Jim Whistler and ready to go. After our ceremonial beer and the changing of the house flags (Picture Attached) Jim and Alice headed home after a wonderful time. After walking around the town we settled on a restaurant called Channelside and sat out on the porch a looked at the beautiful St Lawrence River . The next morning in great anticipation we headed for the Antique Boat Museum….four hours later we came away in awe of all the beautiful restored wood boats…..they even had a beetlecat the kids were sailing. About five of the boats get used every day and take people for rides. Then we went over to the other building that had all the wood race boats from 1880’s forward and lastly to the restoration shop. I got a chance to compare notes with their shipwright about some beetlecat and varnish details. HHe was very knowledgable. They were working on a 50’ wood boat called “Pardon Me”..one of the largest boats to run the river. I would highly recommend this trip to the museum for anyone who loves boats and see names like Hacker, Hutchinson, Lyman, Penn Yan. Tomorrow we head for Alexandria Bay and the land of the Castle Houses! Cap Jim
