O7/24/12 NYANZA left dock for a 23 mile run from Clayton to Alexandria Bay NY. Wow, this river is deep…...running in 120-170 ft of water we moved quickly with a current pushing up of 1.5 knots. We went thru what is called the American Narrows which I suspect that two freighters might just make passing port to stb. As we went thru the eddies from the current were pushing us all over. If you do not know this little bit of trivia….because the St Lawrence is a river and the canal also includes the Welland Canal we are going outbound as we enter Port Colborne, Ont. Thus the colors reverse from on the great lakes with red on the Port / Green on the Stb. Arriving up at Alexandria Bay by noon we proceeded down river enjoyed a great ham sandwich and then headed into the Riveredge Resort where we will be for two nights. Dinner in town…reminds you a little of Put-In –Bay with lots of bars and restaurants….tomorrow we plan to take the five hour boat tour of Singer Castle and Boldt Castle and boathouse. …The Riversedge Resort is very nice. It’s a small world but who pulls in but Bruce Kelsey and his Searay Hotel California from the Erie Yacht Club. He and his guests (The Bylers) had come up via the Erie Canal. Cap Jim
