NYANZA DOCKS IN HOMEPORT ERIE

05-13-09 Wednesday......after 23 days Captain Block arrive in Erie after a straight trip from Red Hook, St Thomas to New York, up the Hudson to Hop-O-Nose in Catskill, NY where the mast came down...across the Erie Canal...to Rich's Marine in Buffalo where the mast went up ..followed by a beautiful offshore breeze overnight to Erie.
Arriving at 0425 at EYC, I went down at 0500 to greet the crew and met 3 US Border Patrol Officers walking down the road toward the boat. Wanted to know who we were and where we were coming from. Our tax monies at work! Dave Block said it was the fastest and easiest trip he had ever made from St Thomas to NY....sailed the whole way. Total trip was 1950 nautical miles with 114 engine hours from St Thomas to Erie, Pa. All in all, Nyanza did a wonderful job as she loged almost 5000 nautical miles in 8 months. She was smiling when she felt that fresh water lapping her sides. Time for a new adventure after we desalt. Cap Jim
