Boat US delivers Nyanza to Hampton

This is your captain Speaking.................
10/17/08 We (Cap Jim and First Mate Sherry) Left Deltaville at Fishermans Cove.......in the mist and rain and 2 mile visability....Captain pulling up the anchor after a 25 knot blow the night before....clay, clay , clay spray spray spray off the anchor for 10 minutes even after being tucked up against the northern shore.....knowing it was coming out of the north.Sherry takes us out to sea, very professionally.

Sherry creeping along out into the Chesapeake ..bounce...bounce...bounce......into 6 foot waves on the nose coming down the Chesapeake......Captain trying the autopilot to see what it will do......takes a long time to move in and out of these rivers to get moving again.....Sherry gets tested with 8' waves later with aft quartering seas with jib open motoring......she is a trooper...

Funny how things change on these wonderful sailboats........Since leaving Erie we have 300 hours on the new Westerbeke 55 engine.....throw up the seas with 15 gallons left on board and guess what.......engine stops......25 miles from Hampton.

Well, captain goes down to check out the situation......no fuel.....calls superman "Rich Ryan" who works me thru everthing humanly possible in three hours.
Diesel Crud...Crud...Crud Finally I just take and closeup everything....let Sherry come in from the cold and warm up after 5 hours and call supertow BoatUS.......after 20 years my friend Boat US comes out for a tow to Bluewater Marina in Hampton. Like corinthians we sailed over to the Hampton River inlet and took the tow....After all these years I have bought Unlimited towing.....Thanks Don from Norfolk.....great job...make sure you tip him.... Whew......in the dock...cold, raw...sherry not having seen the cold Oct....Sun all the way from NY for three weeks.... Her Chesapeake is crying for Fort Lauderdale.....she will have to wait...Anyway...check out the photos from the other day....trying to line up Diesel Dog and the fuel spinner to get us ready to go.....

Flying home to Jane yesterday was an event...Norfolk,Detroit, Erie 12:30 arrive home at 6PM......get a cab at 10:15 and go to the airport thru the tunnel.....car burning in the tunnel......can't enter tunnel...sit for 2 hours ....miss plane...race over to Newport News Airpot and catch USAir at 3:15 to Phila , wait four hours to go to Cleveland.....plane problems....leave 1 hour late and arrive Clevelend at 9:30.....rent Hertz and hit home at Midnight.....It is a pain to fly......6 knots on a sailboat means something......good night....Next blog will start to show you our planning for the Caribbean 1500.
