06/28/13 After 35 years of trying with, 5 different boats, Captain Jim, that's me, finally won the Interclub Cruise. As Teddy Johnson, a past winner at the Ceremony said..."The Monkey is finally off your back". Boy is that true.
With a crack crew including David "Lebron" McBrier and Tactitian and heavy air driver JT McBrier, perfect wind and course condtions "Nyanza Flew". Sometimes reaching over 13 knots on deep spinnaker runs. It is going to take me a while to get this blog done and I will try and tell you as much as possible about this great win. Being on my home turf, it was the sweetist.
Nyanza swept the series with a 3,1,9,6,2 for a total five day score of 21 winning by only 2 points and beating Pat Huntleys, Olson 30 by holding him off the last day. Result Hinckley 42 at 27,000 lbs beats Olson 30 at 3000 lbs.
We had a great Crew in 2013....My son James T. McBrier from Pittsburgh, David McBrier from Erie,
Tim Mehl, Bill Lillis, Bob Becker, Jamie Taylor and Greg Eddins a student at Penn State who is helping on the boat for the past two years. What a crew. Between the 8 of us we probably have 150 Interclub's recorded.
This year we started in Erie going to Port Dover, a Dover Triangle, a run down to Port Colborne, A race down to Buffalo Downtown and the a final Course Race off Buffalo hosted by the BYC. This ended up being one of the few 5 days events where we had moderate to heavy winds...all five days...made to order for the Hinckley 42SW.
