2010 Interclub Cruise Winner, NYANZA WINS TIE

07/01/10 FIRST PLACE DIVISION D.......NYANZA finishes yesterday in the 53 Annual Lake Erie Interclub Cruise that started in Buffalo with a triangle, then Buffalo to Port Huron, lay day due to heavy weather and the on to Port Dover and finally the Erie-Dover Race....in this case reversed to Dover-Erie. It was a very close dual in Div D with my good friends Bob and Christy Porter on Hiawatha, a tricked out Catalina 38 from Oswego, NY...I sailed the Chicago Mac with him a few years back and they are hot racers....here is how it went in scoring for the four races.....Hiawatha 1126 and Nyanza went 6211 each totaling 10 points....unfortunately for Hiawatha to break the tie it's last race backwards... best score and NYANZA WINS........lots of wind ...came in yesterday from Dover covering 38 miles averaging 8 knots in NW winds 16-23 knots...a great ride for NYANZA.....we have a lot of video and pictures that will come shortly on the Photo page......so much for getting a rating change.....had a wonderful time with the Gregories of Odyessey (Kevin, Peggy and Daughter Eren )...They were in the regatta and won their class also in A. This is the boat we sail the caribbean with on the big trip.....next regatta is the Centennial and Freeman before we start for the bay. More to follow....tired after two slugging races 40 miles each in two days.

Cookie Mehl did a wonderful job.....Roast Beef Sandwiches...Beer Smith Dogs...Lizards Ox Roast Sandwiches from the Restaurant...lots of Vegies and dips and a well provisioned bar keep everyone alive...

Lake Erie Interclub had the follow winning crew on NYANZA...JT McBrier (Tactics and Driver), David McBrier(Bow), Tim Mehl (Main and Cookie), Bill Lillis Tactics, Bob Becker(Sheeting), Pete Reyburn (Mast and Spin Trimmer)and Lizard and Frank helping out and DAN THE MAN (BMW our Boat Maintenance Worker for the Summer).

DAN has never sailed and is learning quickly.....best comment of the cruise....boat taking first huge roundup he has ever experienced with the spinnaker and daisy staysail up...he is grinding the sheet for Peter Reyburn as we go screaming over and up into the wind...he jump up high and yells in hysteria "What the F--- just happened! We all started laughing as the boat took off again at 8knots.

Kevin Gregories best comment of the cruise when I wore a monogramed shirt to dinner one night aboard Odyssey...his quick whit on his interpretation of JPM was "Just Pure Magic". Guess that sums it up for now...
