EYC Reverse Handicap Race Winner

09-25-09 Sunday The last race of the EYC Racing program is the Reverse Handicap Race out in Presque Isle Bay.......Wind out of the S and SW and up and down and then it blew 15. Everyone crosses over the starting line at an assigned time and the theory is everyone finishes at the same time if everything was equal.....
Nyanza took off racing in Jib and Main Fleet on a 4.6 mile course...at the first mark upwind it was a mess...spinnaker boats racing in on Starboard, many of us caught in a wind shift coming toward the mark but not laying it on Port....lots of yelling.....Nyanza got around pretty well and took off on two broad reaches down to the dock and upwind to the finish. We powered thru a J24 and two 30' boats to finish a half a boat length ahead. 4 boats finished within 12 seconds of each other in our class. Wow......lots of fun...and to win to boot. After the race a special thanks to TOO TALL PAUL who cooked 40 lbs of Walleye for all the racers. Excellent....time to get ready for next weekends fall cruise! Cap Jim
