Nyanza Ready For Lake Erie Interclub

Isn't fresh water wonderful....it is after you desalt! For the past month I have been working very hard to get the repairs made and the salt out of NYANZA. After 4800miles in 8 months a lot of TLC is required. Probably the biggest thing that I have found that needs work are the chainplates which need to be rebedded.....they leak....can't imagine why after that pounding we took in the Atlantic on the 1500 rally.

Nyanza came out of the water last week. Bottom was in great shape, took the barnicles off the shaft and prop, touched up the bottom paint..then had Perky Pundt wax the topsides.Then splash back in the water. Unfortunately the water is so dirty in our basin at EYC that I have had to pickle the Spectra watermaker and put it away until next year. It flushes every 120 hours and it was getting it's filters clogged when it did so.

Later this month the Erie Yacht Club Log is going to feature an article on NYANZA doing the Carribean 1500 which I think you will enjoy written by Gib Loesel with other portions from Jamie and I.

Looks like the Interclub Cruise will be a little light this year. Normally 70-80 boats. Looks like 55 this year. Lots of fun going to US and Canadian Ports. Check it out at www.erieinterclub.com

Nyanza is now the proud owner of a new 1 1/2 oz chute to replace the one lost in the Heineken Regatta this spring.....Another white chute with the big Nyanza N in the middle. Nyanza will carry on the race a 155% #1, a 110% #3, 3/4 and 1 1/2 oz chutes and a Dazy we fly inside the chute. We are going to have a rating problem however. With the new rudder costing us 6 seconds and a new Mylar/Kevlar roller jib losing 3 seconds our rating has gone from 120 PHRF to 114. Nyanza cannot sail to this rating but we will see what happens....We will appeal this in the fall to PHRF-LE.

Received a note from Sherry last week:

Hi Jim,
We just returned from Newport and we had a great trip. We left St Thomas and has some good sailing, stopped in Bermuda which was very nice and motor-sailed most the way to Newport since there was not much wind. The boat was a Morgan 45 with a center cockpit so it was a pretty dry ride.

I'm heading back to Newport, RI to work the charter boat show next week and then off to see the grandbabies again before heading to Virgin Gorda to move a boat to Puerto Rico.
