March 2021...the highlight of moving Nyanza to Florida was the trip to Eleuthera with my two boys Jim and David and my grandboys Andrew, Alex, Will and Charlie. Sheery and I invited the Eastmans , Jeff and Neila to move the boat out to Spaniel Key. Heading over to Grand Bahama where we had to hole out for four days due to heavy winds. Had a nice time ....met a great couple we enjoyed.....Jim and Mia Steven's on a great Kanter 52 called Orions Night. Off we went to Spaniel Wells and sherry had a guide come out to help us channel in due to our 7' draft. The Spanish Wells Marina was great......with good restaurant and 5 or 6 rooms that could be rented.
Spanish Wells is a predominately white baptist island with a very productive fishing fleet that I understand does all the spiney lobster for Red Lobster and lots of stone crabs. The boats leave for four weeks and spear fish the lobster in 50' of water opening up lobster boxes that are on the ocean floor. It had no real hotels but great houses to rent, a convenient large market, and a number of restaurants...maybe 5.
I rented a house for a week and everyone flew in and we started to have a great bonding time with Sherry helping a great deal. I have pics of the house and some of the fun.......one day we rented a boat and snorkelled a wreck and swam with the pigs and had lunch over at Harbor Island.......across from us with fancy hotels. Standing on the sanddollar island that comes up at low tide was neat also.
The end of the celebration was stone crabs cooked at the house......over the top..right from the fishermen.
