January Trip to Jost Van Dyke

Welcome 2009
Well,returning from the snow and cold in Erie to hot and sticky in Tortola Nanny Cay on January 12 was quite a shock....I had a cold for three weeks in Erie.....but now it is starting to go away.....

Upon returning I was totally surprised asnd happy to see Nyanza in pristeen shape.. Sherry and her wonderful companion Paul,who was here for the holidays had the boat looking in tip top condition...Sherry had revarnished all the bright work and everything stainless was sparkeling. Thanks Paul and Sherry....it also sounds like they had a great time!

It did not take long for Nyanza to get moving.....Sherry needed some sea time..
no rats but mosquitos...and little wind on D Dock at Nanny Cay....If you are coming in here dock a or b only...requires a bigger boat...we are in the cheap seats....

Kevin Gregory and Peggy have a wonderful Farr Beneteau 43.7 from Buffalo here...
last year Kevin was the chairman of the Interclub Cruise and a great friend....they dropped off some friends and told us to meet them at Great harbor in Jost Van Dyke......Nyanza proceeded down Sir Francis Drake Channel, rounded thru west end where I have photos for you of a Wind Ship at anchor...great sail going seven with following winds ..jib only blowing 15-18k. Off we go to Great Harbor being only about five mile across to the north of Tortola......home of Foxy's famous restaurant and bar. I forgot to mention the hard bottom of the Avon Dinghy which had a hole in it from chipmunks in the back garage and was patched blew out...we have it patched and drying at Nanny Cay....so no life raft.....Saved by David however who is bringing down a new one next week.

Well Kevin and Peggy finally showed and we went to anchor and had a reunion....Sherry prepared Stuffed Mushrooms with Sausage and breadcrumbs and cheese we had a mushroom party for dinner with cocktails on Nyanza. No, these were not holucinating mushrooms. They were good....took a ride into Foxys to see what was
going on and had fun watching everyone.......The picture you see out on the pictures is Foxy! He is very sucessful has seven kids to help him. He is around 70.

Morning came early, Peggy and sherry did their swimming and we went ashore for internet access. Following my hammock swing we went back to the boats and headed for White Bay.

White Bay is spectacular....reefs outside, boats on moorings close in with this beautiful white beach......A small hotel called Sandcastle Hotel and two bars and restaurants...Soggy Dollar and One Love ....we ate lunch at One Love and the girls went out in the water and showed us how to trampoleen? Following that we returned by Zodiac to Great Bay.Thant night we had dinner on Odyssey.....Chicken and Pasta...and celebrated Peggy's 50ish something Birthday.
